Max Esterhuizen is a communications and marketing specialist that has spent his professional career in higher education and in sports journalism. As the interim director for communications and marketing for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Max tells and shares the incredible stories inside the college, AREC, and Extension. Max also leads the Office of Communications and Marketing in a digital-first strategy that aligns with the college’s advancement priorities and helps promote the research and academics of the college as well as the impact of Virginia Cooperative Extension and Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station.

During his time in the college, Max has served as the editor of the college’s flagship publication, which has won national awards and landed media placements in outlets ranging from NPR’s Science Friday to Rolling Stone.

Prior to joining the Communications and Marketing team, Max worked in University Relations at Radford University and covered Virginia Tech athletics for multiple outlets. 

While born in Canada, Max grew up in Alpharetta, Georgia, and is a lifelong Braves fan. Max graduated from Virginia Tech with a major in English and earned his Master’s in Corporate and Professional Communication from Radford University.
